On January 14, 2020, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 will no longer be supported by Microsoft. But don’t wait until last minute - now is the time to start planning and executing your migration strategy.

What’s Happening?

Exchange Server 2010, like many Microsoft products, has a defined lifecycle of 10 years during which Microsoft maintains the product. While Exchange Server 2010 will continue to work past the support end date, you will no longer have support should any serious bugs or security threats manifest.

This means that if your company continues to use Exchange Server 2010, you become extremely vulnerable to being hacked. The vast majority of malware is introduced via email systems, so it is extremely important to upgrade your email system in order to stay secure.

What Should I Do?

Start planning your migration now. Waiting until the last minute typically leads to rash decisions and sloppy execution. Instead, make sure your management and IT teams are looking into other solutions. We recommend migrating to Exchange Online – Microsoft’s hosted email service for businesses, which is included in most Office 365 plans. This program has many benefits, including:

  • Automatic Updates: New features become available automatically, and the platform is regularly maintained by Microsoft.
  • Remote Access: Exchange Online is a cloud-based service, so users can access it from any device connected to the Internet. There are also many security options available to help control remote access, so your data will always be safe.
  • Larger Mailboxes: Exchange Online offers 50GB or 100GB mailboxes – so most employees won’t need to worry about deleting old emails.
  • Enhanced Protection: Anti-spam and anti-malware protection is built right into Exchange Online, so you have an extra layer of security.

It’s never a good idea to put a critical system upgrade on the backburner until the very last minute. We’re here to help ensure a smooth transition and provide support as your team learns the ins and outs of the new system. Contact us to get started!
