Switches
What is a switch? A switch is a device that has two primary functions. One, it allows multiple people to connect to the network and internet at one time. The second function for a switch is to act as the network traffic police. If a user sends information over the network (such as an e-mail), the switch makes sure that packets of data that are sent arrive at the appropriate destination. The switch monitors all traffic on the network so that it can avoid collisions which result in a sluggish network, or worse - lost data.
